Call to Action on Hunger and Coronavirus

While the U.S. Congress debates legislation to relieve families suffering from hunger, medical trauma, loss of jobs, income, and more, there is little cooperation between the Senate and the House of Representatives in drafting a joint legislative proposal addressing their urgent needs.

For this reason, our Peace and Justice Committee consulted the Bread for the World website to find a legislative proposal to send to members of Congress which is supported by BFW members and houses of worship across the country.

The BFW proposal is for a 15% increase in current SNAP (Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program) funding to provide hunger relief for vulnerable populations across the U.S. during the COVID-19 crisis. The new name in the proposal is P-SNAP (Pandemic Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program). Its benefits help low income workers, seniors, children, the disabled, veterans and their families to provide three meals each day during the pandemic and beyond.
