"Wake up! Why are you sleeping, Lord?
Get up! Don’t reject us forever!
Why are you hiding your face,
forgetting our suffering and oppression?
Look: we’re going down to the dust;
our stomachs are flat on the ground!
Stand up! Help us!
Save us for the sake of your faithful love."
Psalm 44: 23-26, The Message
In this Psalm the writer is speaking these words to God.
Words of pain and rejection. Words of demand.
As I read this words this evening, I hear a prophetic call. Prophetic questions that are
also being asked of Christ's body in this day and time.
Yesterday, during the Presbytery meeting, we were called into a time of worship and of
lament. I encourage you to sink into the words of the Psalmist and take time to
participate in the Presbytery service.
As you worship, consider the ways we are being called to "Stand up!" in this time and
place.
